Hello,

So this week not too much happened. Just a few fun/good experiences I will share

We were in English class on Friday and I usually help with teaching basic. So there was this one lady talking about her house and cleaning it and then talked about how she grew her own garden. She said a bunch of vegetables that she grew most in English. She said 'cucumber' in Korean and then I said 'cucumber' in English so she could learn it.....well then the other guy that was in our class was talking about something and then he said that he doesn't really 'cucumber the house.' He definitely meant to say 'clean the house' but he said cucumber instead. Super funny.

On Thursday I was on companion exchanges. I ate a lot for dinner with that Elder and got really really sick the next day....My stomach pretty much died Friday at dinner and I did not have a very good night but I was fine in the morning. I really shouldn't have eaten that much food. Well on the exchange we talked to this one guy about churches and he ended up rambling on and on about how there were like 7 churches within a 5 minute walk from where we were....also as we talked he was chugging down a beer. Tried to help him now about living day prophets but he wouldn't really listen. It was very interesting.

Oh last Monday we met with the recent convert that came back from America. We found out a little about him. His aunt lives in Virginia and he went and lived with her and her family and studied English by himself and by talking with people while living there. They are members of the church and as good members do they took the opportunity to introduce him to the gospel! They invited him to participate in family scripture study and prayers. They also invited the missionaries over a lot and then he started to listen to the message of the gospel. He doesn't really know much about religion but when he heard what they said he felt a good feel and eventually got baptized. Anyhow we met with him and talked and talked about the Book of Mormon with him. Really felt the spirit's warmth and comfort as we talked!

A Sister in church told us about some cool thing. Nobody knew what it meant except her so I don't know if it is made up or an actual Korean thing. We were talking about what a good life is and how old we want to live. She told us this 9988234-she said '99' is living to age 99. '88' is living healthy and being fit when you are old. (Based off of what '88' is in Korean) '23' is 2 to 3 days in hospital then '4' (4 in Chinese is death) so die after 2 to 3 days in the hospital after living a long good life is good she said. Just interesting.

This week is a big Korean holiday so we could be super not busy this week since everyone is so busy....we will see:/

5-19-14

5-12-14 was Mother's Day and we got to talk to Elder Frampton on the phone Saturday night.

Okay hello!

It was an exciting last week of the transfer! First things first, Elder Brown transferred and my new companion is Elder Shaw. I don't know anything really about him yet other than he is from Idaho. He has been out a year and like 4 or 5 months.

So Saturday morning.....interesting time. I started studying at 8:00 and when I got up to go to the bathroom I realized I had trouble opening my eyes. Next thing I know my eye lids are super swollen and I can barely open my eyes! I called Sister Gilbert in order to ask what I should do and since I had no Benadryl (she thought it might be and allergic reaction) she told me to go to the hospital. So I went to the hospital and pretty much the doctor said I was fine and that if it were to get worse my face would swell up and then it would be more serious...so he just gave me a prescription for some allergy medicine stuff for 2 days and he said it would make me tired. Interesting experience...The swelling went away around 1ish.

Also Saturday we had a branch activity! We, the missionaries, planned it all and we did an activity with a bunch of mini games and cakes. Pretty much you could win things to put on top of the cake by winning mini games. We bought the cake bases and made some cream icing to put on top, we forgot to put sugar in the cream when we whipped it so it wasn't very sweet so we went out and bought some that was already made and then put it over the other unsweetened cream. Mini games we did were chopstick-m&m race, telephone charades, something called Korean dodgeball, a food feeling game, a card flipping game, and a balloon popping game. It was super intense. About 6 members showed up and then we were able to get out one kid from our basketball activity and then 5 of his friends! They had a really good time

Yesterday at church one of our investigators came out! It was pretty much to see Elder Brown give a talk in sacrament meeting, but it was a really good experience he said. He is a 30 old teacher and the basketball activity we go to is with him and his students. He came to a branch activity 2 months ago and we had been trying to get him to come out to church again. He really likes the branch because it is like a family. We hope to be able to get him out to church more but he always has other plans on the weekends, but we hope since he has kind of broke the ice now by coming to church once then he will come again. He also does like formally hearing the lessons but maybe now it will be easier to meet him and teach him, maybe not so formally but we hope he will be more open to hear more. Also he had never accepted the Book of Mormon he was offered the two times Elder Brown tried to give it to him, but he finally accepted to take one yesterday. We are praying that he will be able to progress now.

So Wednesday we were on the bus going to district meeting an hour away. When we were five minutes from arriving to the bus terminal the bus totally rear ended a car in front of it! It was raining and I was sleeping but all of a sudden the bus starts jerking to come to a stop and as a result of the motion I wake up...then the next thing I know we just BOOM hit a car! The back of the car was totally smashed and the front of the bus was only a little dented in....dang! Luckily no one was hurt and another bus came 3 minutes later to take us away.

Hello everybody!

I was trying to figure out what I would say in this email and couldn't think of too many exciting things......

The most exciting thing that happened this week was that I got a cold on Friday or maybe Thursday.....it was really bad that first day and hasn't been bad since then but it is still here...only a runny nose and a tired throat. I bought one of those face masks from a pharmacy that I could wear when I was at home or at church. I don't wear it out in public because I don't want to scare people away;) too bad for them;) but I think a chance to hear the Gospel plus a cold is better than just a cold!

Lately we decided to visit all the members that probably don't get visited often so this week wanted to visit one of the older couples in our ward. They lived a 1 hour bus ride away (I had my cold at this point and it was a terrible ride but I slept a little). Only the brother was there so we had a good visit with him and he was appreciative that we took the time to go and visit him.

This week we had stake conference. We were invited to attend the adult session and they focused everything on the fact that the members and missionaries need to work together. The work of salvation is no longer just one or the others but both together. The main Sunday session was focused on the strengthening of the family. One thing they talked about that stood out to me was the need for families to pray together.

Yesterday we went and did some service with the bishop and some young men.....we went and helped at a less actives recycling plant place....it was just a bunch of trash in piles and stuff but it was fun and cold! I never knew there were so many types of plastics. PP PD PET HDPE OTHER and more. haha just thought I mention about that!

Also I made cookies this week during my meal times and at night! I made cookies and then took them to members and less actives when we visited them! The first ones tasted super buttery....but the second ones I made were better because I made peanut butter so they tasted peanut buttery! haha

We are really trying to focus on finding new investigators or meet with potential ones that we have. Only two weeks left in this transfer! Time is flying!

Always remember this, if you look for miracles and blessings in your life, you will see them! There are always miracles and blessings from God, if you don’t think so at first, then all you have to do is look!

9-30-13

Well my family, guess what!

I get to go to Busan tonight again!!! Tomorrow (Tuesday) there is a training meeting for all missionaries being trained and training. Unfortunately Elder Yun has been to 3 training meetings in the past and president doesn't feel like spending the money to fly him there and back so I will be going solo....that’s a whole 1.5 hours that I will be away from a companion! Scary! I'm super excited though because I get to see the rest of the missionaries that came out with me!

So I will tell you about the trip to Busan last week.....quite the adventure. It is about 1 hour total of travel time to Busan, counting take-off and landing, 35 minutes of flight time. We flew to Busan and the office Elders picked us up and we went to the mission office. We stayed the night there, and let me tell you, I didn’t sleep very well. In Busan it is a lot cooler than Jeju, so at night we had air conditioning and because we weren’t used to that when sleeping or anything, I frozzzzze at night! The next day we drove an hour to Ulsan which is where the meeting was being held. I got to see my zone (because it was zone conference)! At the beginning of the meeting Sister Gilbert made some announcements including one about a 24 hour bug going around......when she made this announcement I think I missed it. During the second session of conference (we had 2 sessions, 2 hours, 1 hour lunch, and then another 2 hours.) I started to feel sick in the stomach, headache, and bad chills. I talked to Sister Gilbert and she had said I caught the bug! This just goes to show that being isolated on an island can have some effects on you, or protects you;) I was pretty miserable on the flight back (which was 3 hours after the conference ended) and then also that night and the next morning. I was all better by the next night.

 

So pretty miraculous thing happened this week! Saturdays at 5 we have English class. We usually meet up with the sisters an hour before to prepare for it. This past Saturday we were busy setting up for English class when I heard a noise from the hallway. When I went out to look to see what it was, it was some random guy! He came to our church wondering who we were and what we were all about. We then taught him for about 40 minutes a little introduction to the church, gave him a Book of Mormon and some pamphlets and the he left. One thing we talked about was the Sabbath day, he asked us what we believe about it and Elder Yun was able to answer because we discussed it that morning! Let me tell you more about that, Elder Yun and I were discussing it a few days before and we stopped after we couldn’t find out more about why we have the Sabbath on Sunday. Well Saturday morning we were studying and I was looking up something in the bible dictionary and I randomly remembered about how we were talking about the Sabbath. I looked it up and found an answer. I'm sure it was the spirit that reminded me about it because the Lord knew that guy would come today and ask about it........................--------because the conversation was all in Korean and I still don’t understand a lot, Elder Yun told me about his background that he found out. The guy said he is from the mainland and is moving to Jeju sometime soon. He was in Jeju right now looking around for a place to move into (hopefully he moves to somewhere around Jeju city rather than Seogwipo so we can teach him if that time comes anytime soon;) ). But that day, Saturday, he was at a park that is on the opposite side of the street from our church and he was walking on the trail thing that is there. He said as he was walking he saw our church and was interested to find out about it because he never saw our church before. So he grabbed his things and walked over and wandered in, which was when I saw him in the hall. If anything results from this experience I will be sure to tell you how it goes!

Last thing, pday today! I owe it to the Brain for the idea. drumroll please-------------------------------------we went to the Ripley's Museum!!!!!!! It was super awesome, way better than the one we went to in Williamsburg or wherever that was. Apparently there are 32 in the world and it is number 32, aka the newest one. It was pretty big and they had a lot of cool things. I will send 3 pictures again of it. (I only ever send 3 because that’s all that fits in an email and I don’t know how to make them smaller file size)
