Hello Family!

This has been a good week! Right now I am actually talking on the phone with Roger from my last area on the phone so it is hard to type! Haha I’ve been keeping in contact with him about once a week. 

Okay just finished talking with him so it is easier to type now. Last week P-day was fun, we went and hiked the small mountain and we could see so far, Sacheon is actually right next to the ocean so we could see the ocean at the top! When we went down the other side we went to this cafe and Elder Lamb is friends with the owner so we got a bunch of free stuff.....it was crazy! Super delicious though!

Also that night we met with a guy for the first time that wants to learn English and is very open to the gospel it seems. He says he likes the bible and it has good words and that he will study and do whatever homework we ask him to do so we are excited to teach him again. He said he can meet two times a week. He is in the air force and on Wednesday we were supposed to meet him again but we received a text talking about the ship accident and that he was not allowed to leave the airbase because of it so we couldn’t meet.....actually at the time we received the text we didn't know about the ship accident so we had no idea what his text actually meant because without knowing about the accident, the text out of context made it seem like he was saying that he was 'submersed in time' or something, which we took to understand that he was just busy with military work stuff. Super confusing. We hope to meet him this week but it will all depend if he is able to leave the base and when the whole accident situation gets completely resolved and such. (Note: the Korean ferry sank killing more than 200 students)

So before I came Elder Brown was teaching this guy English and the gospel and I met with him once the first week I was here and he actually ended our meeting because his wife from the Philippines came to Korea on the Saturday before. So when I met him for the first time I also met his wife. She doesn't speak Korean so he was learning English with us so he could communicate with her. So now we were able to set up something new after discussing it with him and the Sisters are going to meet with the Filipino wife and teach her Korean for 30 minutes and gospel in English for 30 minutes because the husband wants her to learn Korean. Confusing right? Well we will also start teaching him again 30 minutes English and 30 gospel and hopefully the wife will have gospel interest because that is the way that we are going to try to get the husband more interested.

 Yesterday we met with a guy from South Africa. Not to be racist or anything, but to specify, he is white. It was very interesting....he is somewhat of a conspiracy theory person...he actually talked about everything that is anything. He talked 2 and a half hours straight to us....not with us but to/at us! It was crazy how he could just go on and on and on. He is a hard core Christian and we pretty much found out everything we need to know about his beliefs and how we will teach him in the future. We were able to at least give him a restoration pamphlet and asked him to read it and then we will talk about it next time. He could either be really accepting because he seems like someone who would embrace truth but at the same time he seems like someone who could just be pleased with his religion and beliefs and not want to 'change. We will see.

Yesterday night in celebration for Easter we made scones! It was crazy making them, took a lot of work, our dinner time and then at night after we planned. They were messy but super delicious! Haha

Well my family, guess what!

I get to go to Busan tonight again!!! Tomorrow (Tuesday) there is a training meeting for all missionaries being trained and training. Unfortunately Elder Yun has been to 3 training meetings in the past and president doesn't feel like spending the money to fly him there and back so I will be going solo....that’s a whole 1.5 hours that I will be away from a companion! Scary! I'm super excited though because I get to see the rest of the missionaries that came out with me!

So I will tell you about the trip to Busan last week.....quite the adventure. It is about 1 hour total of travel time to Busan, counting take-off and landing, 35 minutes of flight time. We flew to Busan and the office Elders picked us up and we went to the mission office. We stayed the night there, and let me tell you, I didn’t sleep very well. In Busan it is a lot cooler than Jeju, so at night we had air conditioning and because we weren’t used to that when sleeping or anything, I frozzzzze at night! The next day we drove an hour to Ulsan which is where the meeting was being held. I got to see my zone (because it was zone conference)! At the beginning of the meeting Sister Gilbert made some announcements including one about a 24 hour bug going around......when she made this announcement I think I missed it. During the second session of conference (we had 2 sessions, 2 hours, 1 hour lunch, and then another 2 hours.) I started to feel sick in the stomach, headache, and bad chills. I talked to Sister Gilbert and she had said I caught the bug! This just goes to show that being isolated on an island can have some effects on you, or protects you;) I was pretty miserable on the flight back (which was 3 hours after the conference ended) and then also that night and the next morning. I was all better by the next night.

 

So pretty miraculous thing happened this week! Saturdays at 5 we have English class. We usually meet up with the sisters an hour before to prepare for it. This past Saturday we were busy setting up for English class when I heard a noise from the hallway. When I went out to look to see what it was, it was some random guy! He came to our church wondering who we were and what we were all about. We then taught him for about 40 minutes a little introduction to the church, gave him a Book of Mormon and some pamphlets and the he left. One thing we talked about was the Sabbath day, he asked us what we believe about it and Elder Yun was able to answer because we discussed it that morning! Let me tell you more about that, Elder Yun and I were discussing it a few days before and we stopped after we couldn’t find out more about why we have the Sabbath on Sunday. Well Saturday morning we were studying and I was looking up something in the bible dictionary and I randomly remembered about how we were talking about the Sabbath. I looked it up and found an answer. I'm sure it was the spirit that reminded me about it because the Lord knew that guy would come today and ask about it........................--------because the conversation was all in Korean and I still don’t understand a lot, Elder Yun told me about his background that he found out. The guy said he is from the mainland and is moving to Jeju sometime soon. He was in Jeju right now looking around for a place to move into (hopefully he moves to somewhere around Jeju city rather than Seogwipo so we can teach him if that time comes anytime soon;) ). But that day, Saturday, he was at a park that is on the opposite side of the street from our church and he was walking on the trail thing that is there. He said as he was walking he saw our church and was interested to find out about it because he never saw our church before. So he grabbed his things and walked over and wandered in, which was when I saw him in the hall. If anything results from this experience I will be sure to tell you how it goes!

Last thing, pday today! I owe it to the Brain for the idea. drumroll please-------------------------------------we went to the Ripley's Museum!!!!!!! It was super awesome, way better than the one we went to in Williamsburg or wherever that was. Apparently there are 32 in the world and it is number 32, aka the newest one. It was pretty big and they had a lot of cool things. I will send 3 pictures again of it. (I only ever send 3 because that’s all that fits in an email and I don’t know how to make them smaller file size)

Well, interesting week this week!

Where to begin...

Well a really weird thing happened earlier in the week. I was sleeping and I just woke up all of a sudden and about a minute later Elder Yun reaches over and grabs my blanket, pulls it off of me and puts it on him. Weirdest thing ever, I guess he was cold. So on Wednesday day the APs came to Jeju! Elder Mitchell and Elder Kang. They came because they were doing a surprise visit to the SeoGwi Po Elders down south. They were real surprised when we showed up on Thursday morning. Elder Mitchell stayed in Jeju city with us while Elder Kang stayed with them down there all of Thursday. I learned a lot about talking with people on the street from them. 

When we met back up on Friday we went to a really popular noodle restaurant. We waited like 40 minutes!!!! The church is on that street so we always see people waiting outside of it.

So another funny thing that happened was when we went out for proselyting on Tuesday night. We were walking down some side roads where there are always shops and such. And we see this eel thing that had fallen/jumped out of the tank that was there in front of a shop and it was just flopping around all distressed. Then a guy (we think he was the owner of the shop) runs from a truck and picks up the eel and throws it back in the tank. It was super funny! 

Oh so once in a mission opportunity happened Thursday! Elder Mitchell (the AP) was super lucky because on Thursday we had a branch activity down by the picnic area place of the beach! We had to get special permission from mission president, and at first he said no then after thinking about it he said we could go. It was awesome.

I played soccer/volleyball game, which is just volleyball but with a soccer ball and you can only use your feet and head. It was nice to relax there;) We only went because our investigator that has a baptismal date was there. His mother still hasn’t given permission but we think she will this week so we can have the baptism.

So every week we teach 2 English classes. One is the English class that we are supposed to have, and one is a service activity that we do. They are both super fun!

Saturday morning we played badminton and soccer. I'm bad at both. During soccer there were like 3 people playing defense on my team and I was always the only one that was actually defending so it was always like 3 vs me. haha

So Sunday morning I decided to use my bread and eggs to make French toast!!! It was soooooooo good! I missed having French toast, I will make them more often now.

So this guy we met last Sunday, we called him up and invited him to church. He said he would come, but then when we were in church yesterday he called us up and said to meet him just at a shop down the street. He apologized and said he wouldn't be able to come this week because his family like came to town or something and he was going to the beach with them. He said he would come next week. I think he will. He is the closest person we have to being an investigator right now. This week we couldn't get a lot of people to talk to us especially since weren't a lot of men out. I just wish people could know how happy they could be with the gospel. It would make it easier for us because then they would be more willing to talk to us! I just always have to remember that even saving one soul will be worth it, and if I'm doing all this for that one, then it is okay. I know this gospel is the true gospel of Jesus Christ!
